Orthodox Christianity traces its roots to the original twelve Apostles of Christ. Growing together with the Church of Rome for the first thousand years of the Christian Era, it includes the majority of Christians in Greece, Cyprus, Russia, Georgia, Moldava, Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Armenia, and is represented by large Christian communi¬ties throughout Africa, Asia, North America, South America, and Australia. Orthodox Christianity includes both the Eastern Orthodox Churches and the Oriental Orthodox Churches. The spiritual life centers around one God in Three Persons; the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Who sent His Son, Jesus, to restore humanity to the original image and likeness of God, through His death, burial, resurrection, and sending of the Holy Spirit. Since the early centuries of the Church, the spiritual life has been continually renewed through a deep connection with monasticism, sacraments, the prayer of the heart, non-judgment of others, and love for all humanity and creation.
